A High Springs police car has been stolen, after a suspect got out of her handcuffs and jumped in the drivers seat.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office says Mary Fritz, 30, had been arrested for a probation violation by the High Springs Police Department.

High Springs police say was she was in the back of a patrol car, when she slipped out of her handcuffs, climbed out of a window, and then drove off in the car.

However, police tracked her by following the car’s GPS signal, tracking her out to Union County before she turned around and headed towards Gainesville.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Gainesville Police Department put out stop sticks, popping the tires on the police car on 441 near the intersection of 43rd St.

She tried to run, but was tased and arrested by police on NW 93rd Ave.

Interim High Springs Police Chief Antoinne Sheppard says that she will be charged with felony fleeing and eluding, as well as grand theft auto.

Fritz’s violation of probation was in relation a charge of interfering with the custody of a child.
