Three Rivers K9 Jake helped officers apprehend a fugitive on the run who had 13 arrest warrants.

The incident happened Thursday, Feb. 15 about 1:45 p.m. in the 300 block of South Erie Street in Three Rivers, according to a news release.

Three Rivers Police said they were contacted by Romulus Police regarding a 23-year-old fugitive on the run from the Detroit area.

The suspect was wanted for several felonies including escaping custody, fleeing police and stealing a police cruiser. He also had 13 arrest warrants.

Police said they went to the residence on South Erie Street where the suspect was believed to be hiding. K9 Jake was called to the scene, as the suspect would not respond to officers’ announcements.

K9 Jake and his handler gave a police announcement followed by barking. The suspect showed himself from hiding and was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

The suspect, who is from Detroit, was lodged at St. Joseph County Jail.
