2/14/18 – Highland Heights, KY – 13 Year Old Steals Police Car – Crashes Into Campbell County Police Car At Northern Kentucky University Arena – Officer And 13 Year Old Injured
A 13-year-old boy in a stolen car crashed into a police cruiser following a chase in Northern Kentucky, police said Tuesday.
It happened just before 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of University and Nunn drives.
According to Cold Spring police, multiple departments gave chase to a stolen police car driven by a 13-year-old boy.
After about a three-minute chase, the stolen car crashed.
“He just struck a Campbell County cruiser,” officers said over radio dispatches.”Code 6. He just struck a Campbell County cruiser.”
The chase started in Newport when an officer spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over.
“He’s going west on 6th,” officers said. “Speeds of 51. He’s passed a stop sign.”
The teen collided with the law in front of the BB&T Arena at Northern Kentucky University.
“NKU at the roundabout. NKU at the roundabout. Officer involved in an injury accident,” dispatchers told Campbell County fire and EMS crews.
“Newport units, information only. Highland Heights does have that subject in custody on NKU property in the roundabout,” dispatchers said.
Police said an officer and the 13-year-old were taken to Saint Elizabeth Fort Thomas Hospital for treatment. Both had been released by Wednesday morning.
The crash is being handled by the Northern Kentucky University Police Department. The 13-year-old’s arrest is being handled by Cold Spring police.
