A Louisville woman allegedly stole a police vehicle while in custody Friday night, leading police officers on a pursuit starting at Ind. 62 and Kerry Ann Way and ending on Interstate 265 in Clark County, according to a news release from Jeffersonville police.

Jeffersonville police were pursuing Sara McQuilling, 35, before she stole the police vehicle. She was driving another vehicle with a stolen license plate.

A male passenger in the vehicle stopped the vehicle in an attempt to escape. An officer found the passenger, but McQuilling ran from the scene.

She was apprehended shortly after with the help of a Jeffersonville Police K-9 and treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Service for a minor bite.

While in a police vehicle awaiting transportation, McQuilling freed herself from her handcuffs, climbed into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and fled the scene with the vehicle at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Officers were able to stop McQuilling on I-265 with their vehicles in a safe area with open space. They then apprehended her. McQuilling only came into contact with Jeffersonville police vehicles during the pursuit.

She was transported to Clark Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and then transported to Clark County jail.

Three officers sustained minor injuries during the pursuit and arrest of McQuilling. All were treated and released.

Indiana State Police are investigating the accident at I-265. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the accident investigation at Indy. 62 and Kerry Ann Way.

McQuilling faces several charges, including criminal recklessness with a vehicle, resisting law enforcement, two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle, theft, one count of escape and two counts of unauthorized control of a motor vehicle.

More charges are also pending.
