The person responsible for stealing a Donna ISD Police Department vehicle from Donna North High School on Sunday will be charged this week.

An unnamed suspect broke in at about 10:30 p.m. and grabbed keys belonging to a patrol unit parked at the high school, according to DISD Police Chief Daniel Walden.

The person driving the patrol unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputy, according to a news release issued by a district spokeswoman.

Instead of pulling over, though, the deputy chased the person behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle. Three people then fled from the patrol unit near Dillon and Wisconsin roads north of Donna.

A suspect confessed to the crime, according to Sandra Quintanilla, the district’s spokeswoman.

“We have identified the subjects,” Walden said.

Names of suspects are not released until they are charged with a crime.

The person accused of breaking in to the high school is expected to be charged with evading arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, burglary and criminal mischief, Walden said. Security personnel monitor the high school 24 hours a day.

The sheriff’s office and the school district police department continue investigating the case.
