A Junction City man accused of stealing a Riley County Police Department patrol car was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities said. Anthony Johnson, 32, was being held Saturday morning in the Riley County Jail in Manhattan, police department public information officer Hali Rowland said.

The patrol car was stolen about 6:40 p.m. Friday after Riley County police made a traffic stop near 5th and Yuma, Rowland said.

One of multiple people in the stopped vehicle got out, stole the patrol car and drove it away, she said. The people in the stopped car also escaped by driving away.

Police found the patrol car – which wasn’t damaged – shortly afterward in the 1100 block of Colorado, where Johnson had left the scene, Rowland said.
