A 29-year-old Crescent City man attacked and fought with a Putnam County deputy Friday night and attempted to steal the deputy’s patrol car, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said.

Travis Scott was charged with carjacking, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.

Deputy Chad Hallman initially responded to a report of a disturbance at a home on Glenwood Street, south of Crescent City, deputies said. As Hallman arrived, he was ambushed by Scott and knocked back inside his patrol car. Hallman was able to confront Scott, who then began punching Hallman, deputies said.

As the fight continued, Scott reportedly jumped back into Hallman’s patrol car and attempted to drive away. Hallman used his Taser, which slowed Scott’s attack, but he eventually ran into a residence. Once inside, a dog evidently attacked Scott, and he ran back outside, where he was finally subdued by Hallman.

Sgt. Josh Lee and Crescent City Police Officer Carlos Duran arrived to assist. It was determined that Scott might have ingested illegal drugs, so he was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center by rescue personnel, deputies said.

Once medically cleared, Scott was booked into the Putnam County Jail under $50,000 bond.
