A 17-year-old is in jail on numerous charges, including stealing a police car, after she was cited for possession of alcohol and tobacco products at a local park and was taken home to be released to a responsible adult.

Police were investigating a suspicious vehicle call at Pool Park around 11 p.m. on Nov. 25 and found Kelsey Wood, 17, with alcohol and tobacco products. Lindale police cited her for the misdemeanor offenses and took her home to be released to a responsible adult.

Wood drove south on Boyd, lost control and crashed into a tree. She got out of the car and fled on foot, but was later found in the Brookshire’s parking lot and arrested.

According to police, Wood had a detectable amount of alcohol in her body and operated a vehicle in a public place. She is charged with DWI under 21, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault on a peace officer and other charges.

She remains in the Smith County Jail on bonds totaling over $180,000.
