A double-murder suspect was being hunted early Monday after shooting at least three other people — including two police officers — and stealing a patrol car.

Authorities believe Michael Vance was also struck by bullets at least twice during an exchange of gunfire near Wellston, Oklahoma, on Sunday night. He is believed to be armed with an AK-47.

The two injured officers were responding to reports of shots fired at a mobile home park in Lincoln County, which is located northeast of Oklahoma City.

They came under fire almost immediately after arriving at the scene around 6:30 p.m., Sheriff Charlie Dougherty told local reporters.

“He recently got out of my jail. He was accused of child sexual assault. We were doing an investigation, we arrested him. That is supposedly what set him off but we don`t know that for sure yet,” Dougherty told KFOR.

Dougherty said Vance sped away in a stolen patrol car. He then switched vehicles by carjacking a woman, shooting and injuring her before he fled in her car.

Police said he was also wanted in connection with two homicides but further details weren’t immediately released.

A good Samaritan driving home from the grocery store stopped and assisted the officers. One officer was shot in the foot; another had a bullet pierce his leg.

“Both of them were bleeding out their legs pretty bad,” Chrystal King told NBC affiliate KFOR. “So, we stopped and I got some old shirts out of the truck and tied them up.”

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A second suspect was arrested, officials said.
