The Utah County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Provo man Saturday after he reportedly intended to sell meth, tried to steal a deputy’s vehicle and then ran out into traffic and asked to be shot.

Lynn Porter, 48, was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft of a vehicle, a third-degree felony, damaging jails, a third-degree felony, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana or spice, possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon, driving with a measurable controlled substance and following another vehicle too closely.

A deputy was following a truck on Interstate 15 near Springville Saturday when the truck changed lanes very close to another vehicle, according to a police report.

The deputy stopped the truck, reportedly saw the signs of drug or alcohol use and placed Porter under arrest.

A K-9 sniffed around the vehicle and methamphetamine was reportedly found in luggage. A briefcase containing 450 uses of meth and marijuana was also found.
While the original deputy was searching the truck, Porter had reportedly locked the patrol car doors and was trying to climb into the driver’s seat. The deputy unlocked the door and removed Porter from the car, and Porter tried to run into I-15 traffic to be hit by a car and asked deputies to shoot him.

Porter had broken the deputy’s laptop and on the dashboard of Porter’s truck there were two large knives or swords he said he bought at a yard sale, according to the report.

Porter’s urine test tested positive for meth and amphetamines.
