An inmate awaiting a hearing stole a Crawford County Sheriff’s Office Unit Friday and crashed it on Interstate 40 between Van Buren and Alma.

According to 5News, the sheriff’s office said the inmate, Nichole Speaks, escaped the Crawford County Courthouse using a back door.

She then took an unmarked deputy vehicle and was pursued by several agencies before officers hit the back of the vehicle she was driving, causing it to spin out into a ditch near Exit 12.
