08/23/17  Harrisburg, PA – Responded To A Fight – Officers Saw 2 Men Pull Handguns – Officers Jumped Out Weapons Drawn – Unmarked Police Car Stolen – Found Later On Fire

Harrisburg police have arrested three men in connection to an attack and theft of an unmarked police vehicle Tuesday evening.

Niree Holman, 20, Jairo Rivera, 22, and Omar Rivera, 21, face numerous charges for their roles in the incident that began at around 9:05 p.m. Aug. 22 when police responded to a report of a fight on the 700 block of North 19th Street.

Officers saw two men pull handguns from their waistbands. One of the men racked the slide of the gun, pointed it at a woman and told her he was going to kill her, police said.

Responding officers jumped out of vehicle and ordered the men to drop their guns, police said. The men fled the scene and were able to elude the officers,. When the officers returned to the unmarked 2002 Pontiac police vehicle, they discovered the car had been stolen.

Moments later, police were told a car was on fire on Reels Lane near Lexington Street. That car turned out to be the unmarked police vehicle.

Police remained in the area and subsequently stopped three males the victim identified as the assailants. The victim told police Holman and Jairo Rivera were the men with the guns. Inside of Omar Rivera’s pocket was property belonging to one of the officers, which was left in the vehicle prior to the theft, police said.

Holman is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, persons not permitted to carry a firearm and simple assault. Jairo Rivera is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, escape, simple assault and disorderly conduct. Omar Rivera is charged with arson, two counts of receiving stolen property, escape and disorderly conduct.

Police said the actions the officers took to save the woman’s life are worth the cost of the damage to the vehicle.
