The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation along with the Haskell County Sheriff’s Office has one man in custody after a public intoxication complaint turned into a pursuit, which led to an officer-involved shooting.

Deputies say they received an emergency call in reference to a man waving his arms near State Highway 82 in Lequire. Upon arrival, a deputy made contact with suspect, Mickey Richardson and arrested him on a public intoxication complaint.

Richardson was handcuffed and put into the back seat of a patrol car. According to statement from the OSBI, Richardson managed to slip the handcuffs to the front of his body and he crawled to the front seat of the patrol car.

The OSBI says the deputy tried numerous times to tase Richardson without success after he kept trying to grab his gun.

At some point, the deputy exited the patrol car and Richardson took control of the vehicle. Officials say Richardson then drove towards the deputy, but swerved at the last moment.

Moments later, several officers in the area began a pursuit of the stolen police car. A Quinton officer first spotted Richardson driving the opposite way the officer was traveling. The officer shot at the stolen vehicle, striking the back tire after Richardson reportedly was holding the shotgun out the driver’s window, pointing it at the officer.

Richardson continued driving southbound on State Highway 82 until a Stigler officer spotted him. The officer took cover behind his patrol car after Richardson again pointed his gun outside his window at the officer.

The Quinton officer picked up the Stigler officer and they continued to pursue Richardson. Shortly after, the officers heard a shotgun blast and they saw the passenger side window of the stolen vehicle explode as though it had been shot out from the inside.

The patrol car that Richardson stole slowly came to a stop and officers say that he had been hit by gunfire.

Richardson was transported to a hospital in Tulsa and he now sits in the Haskell County Jail on multiple compalints including public intoxication, grand larceny and assault and battery on a police officer.

No other injuries were reported.
