A naked man assaulted a woman driving in Prineville Sunday night during an attempt to steal her vehicle, according to a press release from the Prineville Police Department. The man then forced his way into a police car responding to the incident and fought with officers, according to police.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, officers with the Prineville Police Department and Crook County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call made by a 15-year-old girl who was a passenger in the vehicle. According to Prineville police, a naked man had stood in the street and blocked the vehicle. He then forced his way into the vehicle, according to police.

While the passenger fled and placed a 911 call, the man, identified as 20-year-old Joseph Adam Bailey of Prineville, assaulted the 23-year-old woman behind the wheel in an attempt to steal the vehicle, according to police.

When officers arrived, Bailey ran away. When they caught him, Bailey charged an officer. A Taser was used unsuccessfully, according to police, and Bailey forced his way into a patrol car. He continued to fight with officers while being removed from the car and taken into custody, according to police.

The woman assaulted during the attempted theft was taken by ambulance by St. Charles-Prineville and later released, according to police. Her sister, who’d called 911, was not injured.

Bailey was taken to St. Charles-Prineville. He was later released and arrested on several charges, including robbery, assault and resisting arrest. Police believe controlled substances may have played a role in the incident.
