One woman was injured after reportedly stealing a UND police cruiser in Grand Forks and crashing in a ditch near the U of M campus in Crookston.

UND Police officials say they were originally called to the Hamline Square Apartments in Grand Forks Sunday morning at 8:42 a.m.

Authorities say they received disturbance calls of an intoxicated female wandering the area who appeared to be lost.

When police arrived on scene, they proceeded to search the area for the woman. At some point, they say a female stole the police cruiser as officers were searching the complex.

Officers attempted to locate the vehicle and used GPS to see that it was heading toward Crookston on Highway 2.

The female reportedly crashed the police cruiser in a ditch off eastbound Highway 2 and went into the left ditch near the University of Minnesota-Crookston campus at the intersection of Highway 75 at 9:22 a.m.

The vehicle rolled and the driver was taken by EMS services for minor injuries that were non-life threatening. There was extensive damage to the cruiser in the rollover, which caused the engine to fly out of the vehicle.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the driver as Kasandra Ellis, 23, of Columbia, MO. A report indicates alcohol was in her system.

UND Police say she was not a student of the college.
