Waco police and U.S. marshals arrested a wanted man late Tuesday afternoon after a chase through a Waco neighborhood during which the suspect attempted to steal an undercover law enforcement vehicle.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was free on bond after an earlier arrest on robbery charges, but was also named in three outstanding warrants that included theft and burglary charges, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Officers and marshals were attempting to arrest the man at around 3 p.m. when the suspect fled, Swanton said.

He continued to resist arrest after officers thwarted his attempt to steal the undercover vehicle, Swanton said.

Officers used a Taser to subdue the man, who was taken in to custody in the 2800 block of Cole Avenue, he said.

Paramedics checked the man at the scene and then officers took him to the McLennan County Jail.

He’s now facing additional charges including resisting arrest, evading arrest and assault on a public servant, Swanton said.
