Houston Police say a man is in custody after stealing a deputy constable’s SUV and leading officers on a lengthy chase before he crashed.

The chase started in the 2000 block of S. Wayside when officers responded to reports of a break-in at a store. Somehow the suspect managed to evade police. He got in a Pct. 6 Constable patrol SUV and sped away.

The man allegedly led police to the north side where he crashed into a ditch on Priest at Burden, not far from his ex’s home. Police say the man then went to the ex’s house and forced his way in.

Eventually he fled the home and tried to hide from police behind a horse stable, but he was eventually caught with the assistance of an HPD K-9 unit and a helicopter.

Police say the woman at the home was not hurt.
