04/02/17 Iola, KS – Suspect Steals Iola Police Car – Dragged Police Officer And Injured – Suspect Hits Tree With Patrol Car and Injured – Both To Hospital

An Iola police officer was injured Sunday, when someone tried to steal his patrol car.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the theft occurred around 7:45 a.m three miles south of Iola. An officer was dragged for a short distance on Mississippi Road, before letting go of the Ford Explorer. The cruiser hit a tree about a third of a mile from there.

A suspect from the Tulsa area was injured, and is likely to face charges. Both the officer and suspect were taken to Allen County Hospital for treatment. KAKE News is not releasing either name until next of kin have been notified.
