14NEWS has learned the suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night in Evansville has died.

Police say it all began when officers responded to a report of a person threatening to kill people at TGI Friday’s at Eastland Mall. We’re told the suspect left restaurant and started walking toward Fifth Third Bank.

Authorities say an officer was confronted by the suspect, who was armed with a knife. The officer kept her distance and that’s when, we’re told, the suspect jumped into her marked patrol car and sped away.

That escalated into a police chase, which ended on Morgan Avenue. EPD tells us the suspect then got out of the car, still armed with the knife. At that time, one or more officers shot the suspect.

The suspect later died at St. Mary’s.

The officers involved in the shooting are now on administrative paid leave for the next three days. We’re told that’s standard protocol following a police shooting.

No names have been released.
