A man who was arrested on Long Island allegedly stole a police cruiser while still in handcuffs and slammed it into several cars early Friday morning, authorities said.

Detectives say the 36-year-old man, of Brooklyn, was stopped by Freeport police while driving an SUV in Freeport and placed under arrest after police found outstanding warrants against him at.

While in handcuffs in the back seat, police say the man manipulated his handcuffs and gained access to the driver’s seat of the car.

The suspect then drove off in the police vehicle on North Grove Street and ended up smashing into multiple vehicles on Babylon Road in Merrick, authorities said.

Nassau County Police and Freeport police grabbed him out of the vehicle on Babylon Road and arrested him, police said.

Images from the scene show the front ends of all three vehicles smashed and battered.

The man was charged reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, escape, resisting arrest and unlawful fleeing of police.
