A 35-year-old Houma woman was arrested Tuesday after trying to drive away in a deputy’s patrol car, authorities said.

The Terrebonne Sheriff’s Department said Alysia Celeste Francingues of 202 T. Leigh Drive had been intoxicated when she allegedly bit her live-in boyfriend’s roommate on his forearm during a fight that erupted shortly after 8:30 p.m.

After being arrested for simple battery and domestic abuse battery, Francingues was handcuffed and placed in the backseat of a deputy’s patrol car. While the arresting deputy was investigating the incident, Francingues removed the handcuffs, climbed into the vehicle’s driver’s seat and attempted to drive away, authorities said.

The deputy ran to the patrol car as it was driving away and after 20 yards managed to stop the vehicle. Francingues was removed from the patrol car and handcuffed again before being transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex.

In addition to the battery charges, Francingues was also charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated escape and theft of a motor vehicle. She remains incarcerated on a $75,000 bond.
