A Toronto woman is facing charges after stealing a Wheeling Police cruiser early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 2:36 a.m., Wheeling Police Officers responded to the 600 block of Market Street for a domestic disturbance call inside an apartment, possibly involving a knife.

Officials say that when officers arrived on the scene, Cathy Yvonne Whiting, 37, of Toronto was outside pointing and screaming, saying “someone was trying to kill us.”

Officers then entered the apartment, where they discovered that Whiting was the problem stemming from the call.

Whiting reportedly then stole a Wheeling Police cruiser, leaving the scene, and drove north on Market Street.

According to officials, officers were able to catch up with Whiting, who reportedly intentionally rammed into another Wheeling Police cruiser on 6th Street.

Whiting then reportedly left the scene again, before being arrested in the 400 block of Main Street.

“She threw the cruiser in reverse and intentionally rammed at a pretty high speed the second cruiser. Then she fled again, ultimately coming to a stop on the 400 block of Main Street. So, at the end of the night we had 4 officers that had minor injuries, the 2 that were in the cruiser that got rammed, and Ms. Whiting assaulted a couple of officers that were monitoring her at OVMC while she was being evaluated there,” said Chief Shawn Schwertfeger.

All officers have been treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.

Chief Schwertfeger said they do believe Whiting was under the influence of alcohol and possible other substances.

Whiting is being charged with the following:

Grand larceny
Destruction of property
Nighttime burglary
Malicious assault on a police officer
Fleeing in a vehicle recklessly
DUI causing personal injury
