Police officers dealing with a serious car
crash were stunned when a man jumped into
their patrol car and drove off.

A 35-year-old man from Witney was arrested
after a chase by officers in a second patrol
car.
The chase ended after five minutes
when the stolen patrol car hit a taxi, went
out of control and smashed into railings.

The man was questioned before being
transferred to a hospital where he was
detained.

The incident happened while police were
taking measurements and photographs on
the road after a car left the road in thick fog,
hit railings and overturned. A 16-year-old
girl suffered serious head injuries and
is in a critical condition at a hospital.
Three other people in the car were also
injured.

Spokesman for the Police, Kate Turner,
said: "Officers investigating the accident
closed the road and had parked their car
across the road to protect their position.
They saw it being taken and driven away."

"They followed in an another vehicle and
the car was stopped after a minor accident."
