Winston-Salem police arrested a man Wednesday night after they said he stole a sheriff deputy?s car.

As deputies were waiting for backup, John Myers, 21, of Winston-Salem, who had been arrested for outstanding warrants, climbed from the back seat of the cruiser to the front and drove off.

The vehicle was located later near Peachtree and Junia Streets, police said.

Meyers was located and taken back into custody after a standoff at a house on Old Salisbury Road.

He was charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle, misdemeanor larceny, and delaying a public officer.
