Wichita, KS - Man Arrested After Trying To Steal Patrol Car - TREMCO SAVED THIS VEHICLE
Man arrested after trying to steal patrol
car
The Wichita Eagle Nov, 20th 2009
WICHITA — A wanted man attempting to flee from police Thursday afternoon
chose a unique escape vehicle — a police car — and as a result ended up going
nowhere.
An officer on patrol recognized a man wanted on an arrest warrant walking near
Douglas and Greenwood at about 3 p.m. Thursday, authorities said. He pulled
over his patrol car and attempted to take the man into custody.
The man resisted, and the officer deployed his Taser. The Taser didn't activate,
however, and the man broke away, climbed into the patrol car and tried to
drive away.
But patrol cars have transmission locks that only the officers can release,
so the suspect could go nowhere. Despite his resistance, he was pulled from the
unit by officers who had arrived to assist, zapped with a Taser and arrested.
He was admitted to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the
scuffle.
