A Whitley County Deputy’s police car was taken and totaled during a chase Monday night.

At around 7:40, Deputy Bill Brice saw a car disregard an automatic traffic signal at State Road 205.  Deputy Brice tried to pull the vehicle over and that is when it took off.

The driver of the car, 22-year-old Daniel Rudisill of Crown Point, led police on a short chase before driving into a field and over fences.  Rudisill then jumped out of his car and took off running.  Police chased him on foot but before they could catch Rudisill, he got into the Deputy’s car and took off.

After another chase, Rudisill crashed the police car and ran on foot again. Rudisill was eventually caught in the area of Johnson Road and State Road 205.  The car was totaled.

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by officers from the Indiana State Police, Columbia City Police and Churubusco Police Departments.

Rudisill is currently in the Whitley County Jail with charges pending.
