FOUR ARMED AND DANGEROUS INMATES FLEE IN CRUISER
2/25/00
WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. - Four armed and dangerous Whitley
County Jail inmates used a police cruiser belonging to the jail to
escape early Thursday. They remained at large Thursday night.
The four men, ranging in age from 23 to 32, told Deputy Johnny
Downs the sewer had clogged, convincing him to unlock their cell.
Once the door was unlocked, the men overpowered Downs and
fled in a police vehicle.
Larry Taylor, the chief deputy jailer, said Downs was not injured
during the incident.
The four men were being held in the jail on felony theft and
burglary charges in four unrelated cases, according to State
Police.
