Whitby Stolen Police Cruiser Located Following Collision

A 17-year-old Whitby male is facing multiple charges after stealing and then crashing a marked police cruiser Saturday night in Whitby.

On Saturday, November 20th, 2004, at approximately 10:45 p.m., police responded to an elementary school on Fallingbrook Street in Whitby School regarding a large group of youths. Responding officers parked their police vehicle and left to check and when they returned, the cruiser was gone.

At approximately 11:25 p.m. police received information that a police vehicle had crashed at Queen Street and Cassels Road in Brooklin and the injured 17-year-old driver was under the care of a helpful citizen. Officer stopped the helpful citizen and arrested the 17-year-old male for the theft of the police cruiser.

Charged is a 17-year-old Whitby youth with:

Theft Over $5,000

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired

Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle Exceed .08

Fail to Comply with Probation

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Several Highway Traffic Act Offences

The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, 850 King Street West on Tuesday December 21st, 2004 to answer to the charges.
