Suspect Arrested after Stealing Police Cruiser

WALKER, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3)
- Police re-capture a suspect who stole a Walker Police cruiser forcing troopers to chase down one of their own vehicles.

The Kent County Sheriff's Department says it happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect's identity has not yet been released.

The incident began at the Motel 6 on 3 Mile Road in Walker.

Police arrested the suspect who was wanted on outstanding warrants from another state.

Reports indicate the suspect was in the back of the police cruiser when he somehow managed to get in to the driver's seat. During the escape the suspect almost hit two troopers, forcing them to open fire. The suspect got away.

The vehicle was found abandoned east of M-37 in Sparta, the suspect had taken off on foot. He surrendered a short time later.

The suspect is reportedly suffering from hypothermia and is being treated at a local hospital.

There is also word that a woman who was with the suspect at the Motel 6 has also been taken into custody.
