INMATE ASSAULTS DEPUTY DURING ESCAPE

VICTORIA, TX - An inmate who escaped from a doctors office
Tuesday assaulted the deputy guarding him, took her gun, shot his
ex-wife and stole two cars.
Inmate Clyde Lavoy Simais, 44, serving time in Victor a County Jail
for a parole violation and misdemeanor theft conviction, was
captured within 20 minutes of his escape.
Simms was at the doctor's office to have an injured foot X-rayed
when he struck Deputy Amanda Roessler and knocked her
unconscious. When she regained consciousness, Simms, who had
taken her gun, pointed the weapon at her and demanded her car
keys.
The inmate fled next door to Victoria Regional Medical Center,
where his ex-wife works in the emergency room admissions, burst
into the waiting room and opened fire. Three bullets struck Angela
Simms and another bullet grazed a nurse.
Simms fled in the deputy's car until he crashed into a ditch. He
stole another vehicle at gunpoint and led police on a chase reaching
speed of up to 90 mph. He surrendered after being surrounded.
Simms was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, one count
on of assault on a public servant, one count of taking a weapon from
a police officer, a felony escape charge and an aggravated robbery
charge.
His ex-wife, who was shot once in the stomach and once in each leg,
is in stable condition.
