Tennessee inmate steals jail van
07/09/05 – Evan Mayor
Police were looking for an inmate who stole a state van — equipped with emergency blue lights — yesterday morning and drove away from a work-release site, officials said.
David Presley, 33, drove off in a Tennessee Emergency Management Agency van while he was taking trash to a trash-disposal compound, TEMA spokesman Kurt Pickering said.
Presley was serving a 36-year sentence from Trousdale County for 1994 convictions of aggravated robbery and second-degree murder, according to a Tennessee Department of Correction statement.
TDOC spokeswoman Amanda Sluss said Presley was classified for a "level 2" community work crew, which means he was assigned to state agency work sites.
He was described as a white male with blue eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 220 pounds.
Officials said he stole a white 2002 Dodge Ram van, license plate S4MY93, marked with state seal stickers and equipped with blue lights and antennas.
TDOC officials asked anyone with information on a person or vehicle fitting the description to contact the TDOC Internal Affairs Division at 741-7144 or call Metro police at 862-8600.
