New Jersey suspect shot by cop in stolen patrol car on Route 80 Monday, August 8, 2005 By MAYA KREMEN HERALD NEWS TOTOWA - A state trooper shot a borough man in the arm early Sunday after the suspect stole his patrol car and sideswiped another officer's car, police said. The trooper encountered Nuccio Lisitano, 22, at 12:30 a.m. on Route 80, where Lisitano had crashed his motorcycle, according to John Hagerty, a spokesman for the state Attorney General's Office. When the trooper got out of his car and approached, Lisitano ran around him, got into the patrol car and took off, sideswiping another police cruiser in the process, Hagerty said. That's when the first officer fired a shot, according to Hagerty. The troopers caught up with Lisitano near his Boyle Street home, Hagerty said. Lisitano was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment of the gunshot wound and other accident-related injuries. He has been charged with eluding state police, aggravated assault on a trooper and stealing a state police vehicle. Police are trying to determine if the motorcycle was stolen, Hagerty said. The Attorney General's Office would not release the trooper's name, pending an investigation. All troopers associated with the incident will be placed on administrative duty for a month while the investigation continues, Hagerty said.
