Arizona SWAT Team Commander’s police car stolen with weapons.

(CBS 5 NEWS) - The stolen unmarked Tempe Police Department car was located in an alley near 1st St. and Hardy in Tempe. It was backed into a parking space and the license place had been removed.

None of the police equipment was in the vehicle.

2 Class B uniform pants
1 set of Commander oak pins
1 SWAT t-shirt, black short sleeve
2 SWAT t-shirts, grey short sleeve
2 SWAT t-shirt, grey long sleeve

1 pair of Danner boots, black
1 briefcase, black leather
1 duffle bag with Tempe PD logo which contained the following:
1 flashlight, gun mount
2 elbow pads
2 knee pads
1 balaclava
1 pair of gloves
1 camel pack
1 ballistic chest plate, rifle rated
4 SWAT patches
Several pieces of personal mail

The unmarked unit belongs to Commander Thomas Long. He was off duty when the car was stolen and was reportedly standing just a few feet away. The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on Saturday night, near 36th St. and Clarendon in Phoenix.

While walking a friend to her door, the 17-year veteran commander with the Tempe police left his vehicle running.  That's when someone jumped into his running, unmarked squad car, and sped away.
