A wild night in Switzerland County came to an end
with a man's arrest early Friday morning.
Troopers said a Switzerland County sheriff's deputy was investigating a hit-and-run accident when he met Michael W. Bailey, 36, at a gas station in Markland on Highway 156 just before 9 p.m.
Troopers said that after the deputy found out Bailey was wanted in Louisville, he tried to arrest Bailey, who ran from the scene.
About 30 minutes later, the deputy reported that Bailey had stolen his police cruiser and tried to run him down, forcing the deputy to fire at least one shot at Bailey.
Officers from agencies in Indiana and Kentucky responded to the scene as well as a helicopter from the Hamilton County Sheriff?s Department to assist in the manhunt.
The deputy's vehicle was found abandoned a short time later near Markland Pike, and the search was called off just before 2 a.m.
But just after 3:30 a.m., a 911 caller said Bailey was walking down Highway 156. Troopers responded and captured Bailey after a short foot chase.
Bailey is being held in the Switzerland County Jail.
