An elementary school in Stockton was locked down for a short time Monday
morning after an off-duty police officer fired shots at his own
car as it was being stolen from his home.
The off-duty Contra Costa Community College police officer left his car running
in the driveway at his home on Kyburz Court to warm up when a suspect got inside
the drove off. The officer then got into another car and began chasing the
suspect. At one point, the officer fired a shot at the suspect, but it did not
hit the suspect.
The suspect then stopped near San Joaquin Elementary School and ran from the
car. The school was put on lockdown as
Stockton police searched for the suspect.
The lockdown at the school was lifted after an hour of searching turned up
nothing on the school grounds.
The suspect was later taken into custody by Stockton Police
