Found on 11/02/02
A police officer who stopped to help people in a car
which crashed was attacked by three men who then
drove away in his patrol car, it was revealed today.
The theft of the police car - which was later found
abandoned near the town centre - happened near
Stafford Park at the weekend.
The police sergeant, who has not been named, was
pushed to the ground as he approached the crashed
car at the Naird roundabout in the early hours
on Sunday.
He was left lying in the road as the three men jumped
into his car and drove away towards the Stafford Park
industrial estate.
Today Chief Inspector Andy Parkes, of Telford police,
said the officer was injured and had been left
left stranded just after 1.30 am.
The police helicopter was involved in the search for
the stolen police car which was found 30 minutes later
at the UCI Cinema.
