Stolen Springfield Police Cruiser Recovered, Weapon missing
11/1/02
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - A search for a stolen police car ended
Wednesday night when the unmarked vehicle was found.
The vehicle disappeared when the home of a police supervisor
was broken into. Keys to the home and the vehicle were taken.
The vehicle was parked outside of the home when it was stolen.
Also taken in the break-in were the officers service weapon,
a .40-caliber S & W semi auto, plus other items. The
handgun had a trigger lock on it, according to its owner.
The unmarked car had no police equipment in it and no lights
or sirens were mounted on the vehicle.
The break-in apparently occurred in a half-hour period around
8 p.m. Wednesday night when nobody was at the home.
Officers have no suspect in the case and are actively trying
to recover the weapon.
