Investigators with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office say around 1:00 Tuesday morning, a man shot a customer and robbed the Lil’ Cricket on Bryant Road in Spartanburg County.
Reshelda Groce is not home recovering from a gun shot wound to the leg. "It was just like a pain, a numbness in the leg." said Groce. Groce stopped by the Lil’ Cricket for a pack of cigarettes when she says a man walked to the beer cooler and then to the counter. "The clerk rung his beer up and then he just stood there for a good two minutes, then he walked toward me and then POW!!" commented Groce. Groce says she ran out of the store and drove home not knowing she had been shot until she saw blood running from her leg.
Deputies with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office say 28 year-old Phillip Switzer then demanded money from the register. Witnesses say Switzer raced to Ron’s Hog Pen BBQ on Parris Bridge Road in Boiling Springs where he works. Lt. Ron Gahagan with the sheriff’s Office says Switzer surrendered but, while he was being arrested he stole a deputy’s car. "He drove the patrol car down the road about two miles where he crashed and as he got out of the car, he was apparently struck by another vehicle," said Gahagan.
Switzer is charged with armed robbery, grand larceny and assault and battery with intent to kill.
