Stolen police car, leg lost, charges laid
Found on 5/6/02 - AK

His leg was crushed by a police car and had to be
amputated. Now 5 months after he was involved in
a bizarre chase with police in Penticton, 22-year-old
Brian Braybrook faces 8 long list of charges.

Braybrook was arrested with 3 friends for allegedly
stealing liquor from a nightclub in November. The
officers put the 4 suspects into police cars but one
man who wasn't handcuffed was able to climb through
the Plexiglass restraint window and drive off in the
police vehicle. Shots were fired and the chase came
to an end when another police car slammed into the
stolen police car just as the suspect was getting out.

The fact that Braybrook lost a leg in the incident
doesn't seem to have any difference in the number of
charges against him. Those charges include breach of
probation, theft, robbery, uttering threats, aggravated
assault, assault causing bodily harm, dangerous
operation of a vehicle, and escaping lawful custody.

Now that charges have been laid in the case, the
police can begin an internal investigation into the
events.
