Police arrest man for taking and wrecking police car

A 17-year-old Shreveport man faces many felony charges after
stealing a patrol car and leading police on a chase that ended
after the suspect wrecked the car.

Rolando Robledo of 2421 Midway has been charged with
unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, flight in a vehicle, property
damage, resisting an officer, DWI and hit and run. All are felonies.

The incident started about 2:20 a.m. at the corner or Hollywood
and Union when he approached officers who were interviewing a
man about another case.

Robledo reportedly gave a false identity and appeared to be an
intoxicated juvenile, so an officer put him in a patrol car and took
him to a house in the 2700 block of Midway Street that Robledo said
was his residence.

While the police officer was talking to the real resident at the
front door, Robledo broke a window out of the patrol car and escaped.

The officer ran after Robledo, who doubled back and jumped into
the driver's seat of the patrol car. Robledo then took off in the car,
attempting to run over the officer.

A police pursuit ensued until the suspect wrecked the police car in
tile 1600 block of DeSoto. Robledo then got out of the car, fled on
foot and was shortly apprehended by a police K-9.

Robledo was treated for minor injuries as a result of the car crash
and K-9 dog bite. He was then booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
