Grand Theft Auto stopped being a video game for one teen
Friday night.
A juvenile male in Middlecreek Township stole a SUV patrol unit, while Officer Dan Colflesh assisted a stranded motorist along County Line Road, according to state police. Police were called to the scene to investigate a disabled vehicle and a male walking on the roadway.
Police said the juvenile was acting erratically and had the smell of alcohol on his breath.
Before the teen could be detained he jumped behind the wheel of the patrol car. He drove eastbound, turned around and came back toward the officer. Shortly after the SUV came speeding past, the driver lost control smashing the front end of the vehicle into the ground, flipping the SUV onto its passenger side. It skidding to a halt on a mountain of boulders.
Officers pulled out the teen, who received minor injuries during the crash. They took him safely off the road until paramedics arrived. Rockwood volunteer EMTs were the first to arrive, transporting the teen to Somerset Hospital. Later it was determined that he was under the influence of alcohol. Police said charges are pending.
