Texas - San Saba County Deputy's Vehicle Stolen at Fatal Shooting

Police: Man Fled in deputy's truck

A 21 yr. old man was arrested Thursday after he fled the scene of a shooting death in a deputy's truck, officials said.

About 5:00 a.m. Thursday, the San Saba County Sheriff's office responded to a call of a shooting in the 1100 block of County Road 114.  When officials arrived, they found

Jimmy Doyle Peel Jr, 21, of San Saba dead, apparently from a gunshot wound.  Witnesses said Peel, Bryan Adams Cummings, and his brother were "sitting around a fire pit"

according to the San Saba Sheriff's office.  Witnesses said that Cummings had a 22 caliber rifle with him because he wanted to shoot rabbits.  They say he slipped on some rocks

while he was carrying his gun and caused the rifle to discharge, shooting Peel, according to the sheriff's office.  After Peel had been pronounced dead,  Cummings was seated in

the sheriff's deputy truck.  While investigators discussed the incident, Cummings moved into the driver's seat and drove away.  For several hours, Cummings

evaded San Saba County law enforcement;  he was apprehended in the southern part of the county, officials said.  He is being held at the San Saba County jail.  No

bail has been set.
