SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- A high-speed chase on Interstate 35 forced San Antonio police
to pull over one of their own vehicles that was allegedly stolen by a woman Thursday.
After speeds topped 110 mph, New Braunfels and
SanAntonio police were able to pull over the 24-year-olddriver, according to officials.
"She caused another accident about six or seven milesdown the road and then a minor accident here whenthey tried to stop her," said Lt. Mike Rust, of the New
Braunfels Police Department.
The vehicle she is accused of driving was a CodeCompliance sport utility vehicle that belongs to the San
Antonio Police Department.
Authorities said she allegedly took off in the vehicle after
a police officer parked it in front of a Northwest Side home and left it running.
"He tried to get in front of the vehicle," said Sgt. Gabe Trevino, of the San Antonio Police
Department. "Tried to get her to stop. He was almost hit, as he had to get out of the way.
She continued on and she fled and he was able to call in the actual car theft."
The chase ended on the north side of New Braunfels after authorities used a barricade to
pull the woman over.
"It's what we call a rolling barricade," said Rust. "They got in front of her, matched speeds and
just started slowing down."
Authorities don't know where the woman was headed or why she stole the vehicle, but she
now faces charges of evading arrest and theft of a police unit.
The woman is in custody at the Comal County Jail.
