San Benito Police Officer's SUV Stolen
KRGV News 09-04-09

SAN BENITO - A grey Chevy Tahoe was stolen around 7 a.m. this morning
along with a uniform.
Police say they're concerned someone might be able to use the uniform to
impersonate a police officer.
NEWSCHANNEL 5 wanted to know the policy regarding where officers can leave
weapons, uniforms or equipment when they're off duty.
The Texas police chief association tells us each department has its own rules,
but NEWSCHANNEL 5 learned several Valley police departments don't have any rule,
including San Benito. This means the officer is responsible for where he leaves
those things.
Of the five departments we called, only Edinburg police requires its officers to
safeguard their uniforms and weapons and makes disciplinary action if they
don't.
Neighbors in San Benito say they're worried that a pseudo cop might be out
there.
The stolen SUV is described as a 2001 Grey Chevy Tahoe. It has purple paw
prints on the back windshield. The license plate number is 41R-DN3
