Teenage Girl Steals Police Cruiser to

Apparently trying to prevent her boyfriend from being arrested by police,
a teenage girl stole a police car and led officers on a wild chase through a
residential southwest side neighborhood. The high speed chase ended Sunday night
when the girl flipped the police car just a few feet from a home. The 16 year
old girl is now in custody.
The stolen police cruiser nearly hit Sara Villanueva’s house.
“I was inside. My mom was putting stuff away. Then I heard a big crash,”
Villanueva told WOAI. “I came running over here and I was, ‘Oh my god. How did
this happen?’”
Police went to a house on Taft Boulevard to serve a felony arrest warrant Sunday
evening. The man took off running, and during the chase, one of the police
officers dropped his car keys. That's when police say the suspect's
girlfriend, hoping to distract the cops so the boyfriend could get away, picked
up the keys and took off in the stolen police vehicle.
Police say the girl jumped into the police car and floored it, leading officers
on a winding chase through residential neighborhoods at speeds of up to 80 miles
an hour. When she finally rammed the car into a pay phone, the booth flew
over a fence, banged off a wall and flew right into a neighboring yard. She then
slammed into a telephone pole, and rolled the police car at Zarzamora and Fitch.
“At least two or three traffic signals that she passed were totally
disregarded,” explained Sgt. George Antu from the San Antonio Police
Department.
Officers told 1200 WOAI's Michael Main that when the girl crawled out of the
wreckage, only suffering minor injuries, her first words to rescuers were, 'did
he get away?'
The answer was 'no.' And now the two lovebirds are together in the Bexar County
Jail.
The police car, which was brand new, was totaled.
