SALISBURY — A Maryland State trooper was hospitalized this morning
after a Salisbury man stole his police cruiser and led authorities on a
high-speed chase.
Maryland State Police said Trooper First Class Timothy Staten was sent to
Heather Glenn Drive to help another trooper with a missing mental subject at
about 2:04 a.m.
Police said Staten found the man — Jason Lee Olson — on Parker Road near Old
Ocean City Road. The man then went into a seizure near Staten’s patrol car.
Ambulance personnel arrived and treated Olson, 25, police said. The man then sat
up against Staten’s rear driver’s side passenger door and told the state trooper
he could control his seizures.
Olson allegedly got into the driver’s seat and began to drive away, police
said.
Police said that Olsen reportedly started to accelerate and dragged Staten
about 25 yards before he let go.
Police said speeds during the chase got up to 90 mph.
Olson has been charged with the assault of a police officer and theft of a motor
vehicle, police
