Rocky Hill, CT - A man who took off from the scene of a serious accident May 9 in a Rocky Hill police car with lights and sirens blaring was arrested by warrant, according to police reports issued Wednesday.
Kevin Jenuska, 25, of 106 Rose Circle, Middletown, was involved in a serious
crash with another vehicle May 9 but when police arrived at the scene, they
presumed both drivers had been ejected since neither were behind the wheel,
a warrant for his arrest said.
Just as police located the seriously injured driver of the other car,
Jenuska jumped into an officer's cruiser and took off past emergency
personnel with the lights and sirens on headed north on I-91 at a high rate
of speed, police said in the warrant.
The accident occurred on I-91 north just before exit 23. Jenuska was driving
his girlfriend's Volvo at the time of the crash, police said, and they were
waiting at his girlfriend's Rocky Hill address when he pulled up in the
police car a short while later.
As Jenuska stepped out of the police cruiser, he "appeared intoxicated" and
was cut, scraped, wet and smelling like swamp water and alcohol when he was
taken into custody without incident, police said. Jenuska was then
transported to Hartford Hospital after complaining of chest pains.
Rocky Hill police were unavailable for comment. The arrest warrant said the
police car was worth more than $11,000 and Jenuska had torn off
the microphone and the in-car computer screen was pulled away from the
dashboard while he was in the vehicle.
Jenuska was arrested by warrant Tuesday on charges of first-degree larceny,
interfering with a police officer, reckless endangerment, reckless driving,
unauthorized use of a warning device and first-degree criminal mischief.
He was held on $100,000 bond until his appearance in New Britain Superior
Court Wednesday. Court officials said he was released on $20,000 bond and
his case was continued until June 4. It is unclear if Jenuska will face any
charges in connection with the accident.
