RICHARDSON, Texas -- Richardson police Tuesday stopped a driver during a routine traffic stop for running a red light.
The driver was pulled over along Spring Valley Road near the intersection of Maham Road. The man failed to give his real name and did not produce a driver's license or proof of insurance card, according to police.
The officer handcuffed the man and placed him in the backseat of the police squad car while the man's car was being towed to the police impound lot.
The man managed to slip his handcuffed hands in front of his body, climbed over the front seat, took control of the patrol car and drove away.
The man eventually stopped the squad car and fled on foot.
Police said the man remained at large, although they know his identity.
