A naked man who led police on a chase this morning in a stolen patrol car after he bit a female officer faces numerous charges that include assault and auto theft, police said.

The chase, which began in North Philadelphia, ended blocks away in Fairmount after the driver crashed the patrol car into a parked car, police said. He was captured as he tried to flee the scene on foot.

Police did not immediately release his name.

A police spokesperson said the incident began about 1:30 a.m. when officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Turner Street in North Philadelphia to investigate someone screaming. There, they spotted a man wearing a bathrobe who started to run. During a foot chase and before police caught him, the man doffed the robe.

When police brought him back to the intersection, he attacked the female officer, biting her on the arm. Then he jumped into her patrol car and took off, eventually crashing at 29th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

The officer who was bitten was treated at a city hospital for the injury.
