Cruiser Abandoned In Council Bluffs
Found on June 6, 2002
OMAHA, Neb. -- A handcuffed man allegedly
stole an Omaha police cruiser and dumped
it in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Thursday

morning, according to police.
Officers first stopped the Robert Baker, 26,
at 38th and Ames streets when they noticed
the truck he was driving appeared to be stolen.
Officers handcuffed Baker, and put him in the front
seat of the cruiser, which is standard procedure.
However, as officers were searching the truck,
Baker managed to drive off in the patrol car,
police said.
"He was able to move those hands in front
of him under the seatbelt and get over to
the driver's seat and flee," Sgt. Dan Cisar
said.
Investigators believe Baker abandoned the cruiser
in a trailer park in Council Bluffs and fled.
